Attending CCC 2026 conference in Hungary for the first time was an inspiring experience. The big topic of this year is Artificial Intelligence, and this was the case also at Creative Construction Conference 2026. We discussed everything from managing cyber security risks at construction projects and best BIM practices to using AI agents for TBM tunnel construction and using advanced methods for improving health and safety practices. There were also sections for suistainable and resilient construction and scheduling and project control. And in last section we learnt about new approaches in Education for construction professionals.
Keynote speakers
We had three wonderful keynote speakers who presented their work. Vivien W. Y. Tam reminded us about differences between Carbon neutral, Net Zero and CO2 negative. Farzad Pour Rahimian put into spotlight his work on integrated BIM and digital Twins. Hanbin Luo showed us the implementation of AI agents for optimizing construction of tunnels with Tunnel Boring Machines.
Inspiring presentations
There were also many inspiring presentation, I would just like to mention a few that stuck with me. Dr. Žiga Turk talked about The Bim Cost Disease and how our measuring of productivity in construction might be a bit off. One of the most promising presentation was from Bikash Lamsal, who presented development of a system which uses only facial features to detect fatigue in workers. Another computer-vision presentation that stood out to me was Ahmet Arif Yakupogullari’s framework to improve construction safety using 360° site imagery. And of course a construction management game developed in Chile, which was presented by Ximena Ferrada.
Best presentation Award
I attended the conference with the article titled: Optimizing subcontractor procurement, which was written in collaboration with Anja Brelih, Aleksander Srdić and Robert Klinc. I was honored to receive Best presentation award. This was my first international conference and it was an amazing experience I met brilliant researchers from all over the world. I hope we meet again soon!
